REVAMPING THE OLD, OUTDATED BDW:
BLR Design Week builds future possibilities by facilitating collaboration between citizens, designers, institutions, and the government, using design as a catalyst for change.
The current BDW design, while solid and professional, falls short in capturing the vibrant cultural and artistic spirit of Bangalore. It tends to lean toward a corporate aesthetic, emphasizing reliability and professionalism, but it lacks the vivacious and fun feeling that design can truly embrace. Even the illustrations are confined to the Corporate Memphis style, which, while contemporary, doesn't fully encapsulate the city's rich artistic tapestry. In a city as culturally rich as Bangalore, where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously, the design language should evoke the lively and dynamic nature of the place.
REBRAND THAT TELLS A STORY
It incorporates handcrafted, playful typography and cultural icons, all of which come together to celebrate the essence of Bangalore – a city teeming with art, culture, and heritage. This new design concept infuses the brand with the warmth, fun, colour, and cultural depth that have long defined Bangalore, resonating with both the artistic and inquisitive spirit of the city's residents and visitors alike.
My journey into rebranding BDW was anchored in a deep exploration of Bangalore's cultural tapestry. This exploration led me to two distinct but deeply symbolic elements: the Vidhan Soudha and the quintessential auto-rickshaw.
The Vidhan Soudha, a majestic architectural marvel, embodies the city's administrative and political hub , its iconic presence transcends the mundane and connects deeply with the city's identity.

The Vidhan Soudha, a majestic architectural marvel, embodies the city's administrative and political hub , its iconic presence transcends the mundane and connects deeply with the city's identity.
The auto-rickshaw, with its ubiquitous presence on the bustling streets of Bangalore, encapsulates the spirit of the city's everyday life. Its vibrant, eye-catching design and ever-present utility make it an endearing symbol of Bangalore's dynamic and lively character.
The secret sauce: The Kolam designs and icons.
The Kolam, steeped in cultural significance, emerged as a focal point in the rebranding journey for BDW. Its intricate patterns and the age-old tradition of creating these art forms at thresholds reflect a deeper layer of Bangalore's identity.
The deconstructed Kolam patterns formed the foundation for the designs, creating a visual language that harmoniously blends tradition with modernity.
The Kolam serves as a bridge between the city's rich history and its dynamic future, encapsulating the very spirit of BDW's mission to celebrate creativity and design in all their forms.
